Spiritual determination: My child, when you come to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials

The Bible tells us that spirituality is not for people who seek comfort or for lazy people, spirituality demands deep determination. For people who only seek fun and pleasure, and who are carried away by what happens at the moment, spirituality is just a laughing matter. In the spiritual war, the persevering people are the people prepared for everything in life, and this is what the Lord asks of us if we want to serve his eternal and perfect cause.
Wisdom teacher Ben Sira taught us about this:
"My child, when you come to serve the Lord,
prepare yourself for trials.
Be sincere of heart and steadfast,
and do not be impetuous in time of adversity.
Cling to him, do not leave him,
that you may prosper in your last days" Ben Sira 2:1-3.
Examples of this spiritual teaching were the prophet Moses who had to face the pharaoh and guide the people of Israel to the promised land, also Job who was put to the test by the accusing angel before the court of God, or David who had to defeat Goliath, the philistine, in a legendary combat. They all had to face dangers and but in the end, they were victorious and blessed, the wisdom of the Lord is spiritual protection for those who believe in his power.
The powerful men oppress the common and simple people with lies and deception, and it is logical that whoever is on the true spiritual path, the path of righteousness (golden rule) and mercy (compassion, kindness), has to accept secret or open enemies, and also adversities, good and evil are in an eternal fight. The path of spiritual salvation is a difficult and risky path.
The teacher of wisdom gave us a severe warning, meekness and patience are keys to the true blessedness, and the best example of this teaching of master Ben Sira is our Lord Jesus Christ:
"Accept whatever happens to you;
in periods of humiliation be patient.
For in fire gold is tested,
and the chosen, in the crucible of humiliation.
Trust in God, and he will help you;
make your ways straight and hope in him" Ben Sira 2:4-6.
