Life360: Family Locator & GPS Tracker for Safety

  • The website is for information and signing up. It doesn't offer any services like a sex offender search.
    App: Android Apple
  • Price: Free for basic services with account. 7-day trial offered, then pay for Silver: $4.99/mo, $49.99/yr; Gold: $9.99/mo, $99.99/yr; Platinum: $14.99/mo (normally $19.99/mo, sale ‘til 9/7/20), $149.99/yr.
  • Size: Android: 52 MB, Apple: 144.4 MB
  • Ratings: Android 4.6, Apple 2.6
    • Recent reviews have been negative because of a glitch that appears to have already been fixed, but are otherwise positive reviews.
  • Last app update: Android: 8/10/20 Apple: 7/30/20
  • Provided by: Life360
  • Search options: This is a paid feature. Unknown radius, focused on current location, nationwide, drag to re-orient.
  • Results: Viewing perps is a paid feature. In order to see sex offenders, you must click on "Safety" > "Crime Report" and the "Offenders" tab. The interactive map appears with nearby sex offender pins.
  • Details given: Click on a pin and it'll show you the satellite view of his/her/their house, tiny photo, name, age, race, gender and charges against the person. Alternatively, below the map is a list of perps that you can drag up to open, and then click to see the same thing.
  • Other features: Unfortunately, within a day of installing, the paid features, including finding perps, were disabled. Add people to your circle, add circles, switch circles, add favorite places, add emergency contacts, and your photo, location sharing, 2 place alerts, 2 days of location history, unlimited check-ins, communicate via circle chat (other members required), crash detection, real-time speed monitoring, weekly driver report for each member, and send SOS alert (members and/or emergency contacts required).
    • Paid feature: place alerts (5, unltd, unltd), location history (7 days, 30 days, 30 days), unlimited check-ins, crime report, sex offender locator, crash detection, family driving summary & individual driving reports, roadside assistance (none; 5 miles tow + gas; 50 miles tow+gas, SOS alert, 24/7 emergency dispatch, ID theft protection & restoration (none, $25k/ member; $1M/member), stolen phone coverage ($100; $250; $500). Platinum only: credit monitoring, disaster response, medical assistance, and travel support.
  • Setup: The app requires you to set up or log into your Life360 account. If you've already completed signing up, you just need to log in. Once you're done with that, you have access to both all the free options as well as the ability to choose a paid level of services.
  • Thoughts: Given the options you get by paying, I think this is a good choice and a robust app. Even if you don't need the paid features, it still offers valuable features for families. If the free features would be valuable to you and your circle, or you don’t mind paying for the wide variety of additional features, I think this is an excellent choice for parents/friends concerned about their loved ones. If you just want to find and know about perps, go with another app or use a website, since that info is freely available.
