Today is about as gloomy as they come.
Damp, chilly, raw! In and off rain will continue for the rest of the day, with temperatures barely into the 40s. Rain looks to ramp up in intensity this evening as a coastal low strengthens. The storm is also pulling colder air down from the north. While it will be a little too warm on Long Island, the precipitation could fall as sleet or even freezing rain across interior sections north and west of NYC, making for some difficult travel. Keep that in mind if you will be attempting so, or know loved ones who will.
On Monday clouds will give way to sun, and as they do the winds will begin to pick up as well. Temperatures briefly return to seasonable levels before biting cold returns Monday night into Tuesday. With the windy conditions, Tuesday Morning wind chills are likely to be in the teens!
Looking ahead, the week will be quiet until Thursday night, as the next weather system moves in. It's looking like this will be all rain as some milder air comes in from the south. Wet conditions Friday may linger into Saturday, but it looks like most of the weekend will be dry and chillier.
WHITE CHRISTMAS WATCH - CURRENT PROBABILITY: < 10%
Conditions should be cold enough but right now it doesn't look like the next storm system will be around until after the holiday. Of course timing could change, but as of now I just don't see it.
