Just one of the many freshly introduced policies coming out of Beijing after a rafter of celebrities cullings (re: Kris Wu, Zhao Wei, Zhang Zehan etc.) makes very little sense in furthering the strength of the country despite its weak logic surrounding "national rejuvenation" and "revolutionary culture"..
At face value, the idea of effeminate men setting bad examples for the future crop of masculinity seems like par course coming out of the ever more conservative society that is China. But the real problem is not the overly zealous attention given to celebrities that happen to be BORN with these qualities, but that of backwardation of liberal thought and acceptance of people for all their differences.
Backtracking on decades of free growth and an ever more liberal society, China now sets its sights on projecting an image of strength and power, and they some how believe that it begins with the dismantling of men with certain aesthetics. It is as if some how, if a major conflict were to happen, men who look feminine in nature, are not as valuable as those that look more masculine? Is that even measurable?
What other stringent policies do we expect to come out of Beijing as Xi attempts to make society a fairer place for all?
Remember, fair for the rest of us mean fair opportunity. For Xi, it appears his aim is to make everybody a carbon copy of each other, and create what can only be described as his version of the "master race" - some seriously bad Nazi vibes emanating out in the process.
What can the people of China hope for if they want to live a free'er, more liberal society? Well, for Xi to step down or kick the bucket sooner rather than later. Believe it or not, the people of China are tolerant for cessation of freedoms, but lately, it seems like China is headed squarely on course back towards socialism and I have a feeling that might not sit right with many people this time!
