Stuart Memorial Church was a famous Christian church in the history of Hangchow and the largest of the 5 churches established by the Southern Presbyterian Mission. It was Located on the southwest side of the intersection of Qingchun Road and Huansha Road, next to Zhuangan Bridge.
The construction began in 1915, and was completed in 1917. Regrettably, this church was closed in 1966, and finally demolished in 1977.
It was built in memory of John Linton Stuart, the pioneering founder of the Southern Presbyterian Mission's church in Hangzhou, who passed away in 1913.
John Leighton Stuart, one of his sons, was a missionary educator, the first President of Yenching University and later United States ambassador to China.
