Five million people in China lost their jobs in January and February this year amid the coronavirus outbreak.
China’s official (but highly doubted) urban unemployment rate jumped to 6.2% – its highest on record – in February. That’s up from 5.3% in January. The jump in unemployment joins several points of data showing how severely the virus has hit growth in the world’s second-largest economy.
