在诺曼人在黑斯廷斯战役（公元 1066 年）中击败英国人之后，在欧洲战争中使用弩开始流行。然而，中国人在公元前 5 世纪左右发明了弩，比它早了 15 个世纪！中国还发明了连发弩，在公元 200 年左右能够在 15 秒内发射 10 支弩箭。火药也是在公元 11 世纪发明的。
