coffee and chocolate. fuck I’m gonna miss them when they are gone.

We don’t realise how attached we are to something until it’s gone, and often times we struggle with the loss, I mean, just look at fortnite right, a lot of people are gonna be still morning the loss of that this morning.

Switzerland has announced plans to abolish the emergency stockpiling of /coffee/, a strategy that has been in place for decades, saying the beans are not vital for human survival.

But then Switzerland comes up to bat and says that coffee is not vital for human survival! I MEAN sure, I get it Switzerland it’s not like got our five a day and shit but can you imagine a planet with people who DID’NT get their coffee today, that’s a whole bunch of insurance claims and sleepy people right there, bubbling up, looking for replacements — maybe cocaine sales will start to go through the roof instead.. .

But seriously. ..Switzerland, you had me at chocolate and lost me at not keeping stocks of coffee, what a cruel cruel world we live in to have things away we love to eat climate changed out of existence — but what will replace them, things that taste like them, things grown in labs that kinda remind you of those times when you had the pure real thing? What will feel real in the virtual and augmented future we are cascading into?

I can’t imagine what it was like when things were ‘rationed’ in fact we have generations of us that have never seen hardships when it comes to food stocks and their supply, massive trade routes put in place to cater for us, shops packed to the gills with food (or at least fancy packaging making it look like food) so we never have to be concerned about access to it.

But I’d sincerely miss not having a piece of chocolate and my daily coffee, we do take things for granted in life, I mean I should really walk the path of where my coffee came from really if I love it that much, from source to cup, raw material to end of life of that coffee glass container it came in — but we don’t, because it goes us where we wanted to go, we got the coffee hit, our legal upper than is sold on the shelves of all good convenience stores. ..

convenience — ‘the state of being able to proceed with something without difficulty’ (also the name of a public toilet in the uk)

So how do we ‘proceed’ without things? I’m guessing the first port of call is ‘caution’ right? I mean all my life you’ve stuck up stickers and banners whenever I’m somewhere I shouldn’t be with notes of ‘caution’ but you don’t actually tell me why — just that I shouldn’t go there. I’m presuming that means ‘bad’ things will happen if I step over the line of caution.

I think we treat the site of the planet like this also, everyone is a semi state of apathy caution, like cutting down on a few things and buying metal straws over the plastic ones will suddenly make us a good citizen and climate change will be conquered by the very species that pushed the large snowball down he ever cascading climate hill (don’t worry it will be melted by the time it get’s to the bottom right?)

Maybe we will crave a time, staring out of our high rize buildings (you can’t live below 50 stories high in the future) looking at the blinking dull neon pink and blue lights of the future of uber travel as the acid rain burns anything that was not coated with that new wonder material that Elon’s AI Hivemind made those years back. Yeah, maybe we will crave the soothing touch, the neuron firing physical flesh experience of senses, dulled by data and metal machines…

Maybe the game will be streaming to literally level up, the higher you rank the higher up the skyscraper in floors you can ascend, where the better air and food production is, where the quality of life is literally better the higher up in the sky you go, maybe below is literally your life’s XP draining away dreaming of what the ‘ancients’ enjoyed and burned away so easily.

Have a great monday.
