Thorn of the Flesh: Protects Us from a Haughty Spirit

Oftentimes, men present flowers as an emblem of their love and care for the ones they love. They do not simply pick any flowers but choose a bunch of lovely Rose flowers because it became a symbol of love. This perhaps the reason why Rose flower is called the "Queen of Flowers" for its exquisite beauty resembles the sublime glory of a queen.

The unique characteristics of a Rose plant are its thorns. Though its thorns can not really protect it from hungry animals that feed on it.

Since Rose flowers became a symbol of love, there's a saying that goes to it. "Every Rose has its thorns." It says that life is not always a bed of roses.

I want to look deeper into life by comparing it to the rose.

The flower itself draws your eyes to behold it. It attracts your sight as its petals smile on you. Yes, its flowers give beauty to the rose plant and that makes it for us to admire it.

In life, success beautifies our lives. Achievements in life are most of the things people look at us. They admire you when they know that you bloom like a flower through your "thorns" in life.

But why do we need to have thorns of life? Many people have fallen to the trap of self-sufficiency. When they've reached the peak of their success, they have forgotten who they are.

Perhaps at this time in your life, you are praying for deliverance from handicapped, sickness, infirmities, circumstances or problems. And you wonder why God seems not listening to you.

The apostle Paul had something to say about that.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 KJV
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing, I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

As the Bible says, thorns of life keep us from being prideful. It is what we need to stay humble and grateful when we achieved something. And as Christians, to give God the glory as He bestows us wisdom and strength to accomplish things in life.
