Theological Word of the Day: Hyper-Calvinism

in christian-trail •  6 years ago

DISCLAIMER - The following is taken from the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry Dictionary of Theology and does not necessarily reflect the view of myself. The Theological Word of the Day is strictly for educational purposes and research only.

HYPER-CALVINISM -

Hyper-Calvinism is the unbiblical and unscriptural teaching that because God has predestined those whom He wills to be saved (Ephesians 1:1-11, Acts 13:48, etc.,), that no evangelism is necessary (not all Hyper-Calvinists hold to this view) because God will bring about the salvation of the elect whether or not the Christians preach and teach the gospel message. Therefore, it will deny the necessity of missionary work. It also denies common grace and any form of love that God might have for the unbeliever (see Matt. 5:43-48).
Hyper-Calvinism is an affirmation of God's sovereignty to such a great degree that it negates the responsibility of man to preach the gospel to the lost.

Without a need for preaching to the lost, there is little concern for the lost, little prayer for the lost, and little attempt to reach the lost.

Biblical Calvinists reject Hyper-Calvinism.

I am neither Calvinist nor Hyper Calvinist. I hav to tell you you, I would not consider either a Theological word. :-)
I think the concept of sharing definitions of theological words could be quite profitable. Thanks.

I agree. It's not a word. More so a title or theological position. It's simply part of the "Theological Word of the Day" family of posts. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
