Desert Mentality : Part III# Grumbling

When we are in misery we often complain or grumble to God. God does not like it when we often complain. As the Israelites did when they were in the desert.

Numbers 16:41, 49 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

This passage of the word of God very clearly tells us about the dangers of grumbling. The Israelite complaints open the door for the enemy to enter and destroy them. They should appreciate God's goodness, but they do not do it so they have to pay the price, dying 14,700 people.

Numbers 21:5-6 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

The Israelites tempted God, tested His patience, judged Him by censure and used His goodness, so they were killed by poisonous snakes.

We can also experience the same thing when we behave like the Israelites. We may not complain with our mouths, but we already complain first with our minds. The complaint is actually a wilderness mentality that will prevent us from going to the ground of the covenant. Israelites complain and remain in the desert.
Let us compare with Joseph, an example in the Bible.

Psalms 105:17-19 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.

Joseph was treated unfairly by his brothers. They sold put into the well, then sold it and told his father that Joseph had been killed by a beast. Then he was bought by Potiphar who brought him to his house as a servant. But God gave mercy in his life so that wherever he went and soon he got the mercy of his new master. Yusuf continues to be promoted, but injustice always happens in his life. Potiphar's wife tried to seduce her to do the wrong thing. Yusuf is an honest man. He does not want to deal with her. Finally the potiphar wife made a slander by twisting the facts by accusing Joseph of wanting to rape her, so that in the end Joseph was imprisoned. Joseph tried to help others while in prison. But again, he was forgotten by the chief of the cupbearer. But Joseph did not complain and because he had a good attitude in suffering, God finally liberated and increased the dignity of Joseph. He finally came to a high position in Egypt so that no one in all the land was domiciled above him except Pharaoh himself. God also restored Joseph's name in his situation with his brothers. When his whole country was hit by hunger Joseph showed his kindness to his brothers without intending to take revenge. He tells them that their intent in hurting him has been used by God to bring good to him, that they are in the hands of God, not his hands, and that he has no right to do but bless them.

Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Philippians 2: 14-15 teaches us not to grumble, criticize or complain. Complaints only bring negative energy to us and others. Complaints make us ungrateful to God. Even though we are suffering today we must remain grateful to God, because there are still many reasons in our lives to be grateful.

Pray and give thanks

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

The apostle Paul taught us to pray with thanksgiving in every circumstance. God will not give us anything else, if we can not be grateful for the things that already exist.
