Let's look at some of the aspects that are tied to the definition of "Grace."
Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.**
The Apostle Paul spoke about the increase that God gives us as tied to "planting," and "Seeds." (I encourgage anyone who reads this to read the parable of the seed sower. Luke 8:11-15, as explained by Jesus.)
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6
This part of the definition also ties into "Mercy and Truth," I'm adding a link to an article that focuses just on that subject for anyone who would like to read it. It was posted last month on my blog here on Steemit.
Mercy and Truth!
God extended His grace to many throughout the scriptures:
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
The same definition of Grace, also speaks about reconpence and reward:
"4) (Thankfulness,) (thanks) (for benefits, services, favours), recompense, reward"
The bible teaches about recompense for actions done in this world, and recompense when we appear before the judgment seat of Christ. These are some select verses on the subject, the bible goes into much more detail on the subject.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Romans 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Romans 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Proverbs 11:29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Proverbs 11:31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
2 Chronicles 6:30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men;
Psalms 62:12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
Proverbs 24:12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
1 Peter 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
God's word gives us the full picture that ties every subject together from the beginning of the Bible to the end. I encourage anyone who reads this to study it out.

That's a really favorite verse of mine, "Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts."
And we indeed have to remember that only God's grace makes us worthy and zealous for good works. Our human tendency is to think of our good works as our own.
