Doing Some Volunteer Work on Christmas

in christian-trail •  7 years ago

A while back I posted about how I was asked to sit on the Board of Directors at the Justice in Mental Health Organization drop in shelter for recipients of mental health services that are homeless.

I used to be a person that hung out there a lot when I was homeless and using drugs.

Now I sit on the Board of Directors...

Service work

Part of sitting on the board is a commitment to serve at least 10 hours of community service every month. I knew they put on a big Christmas dinner every year so I volunteered to serve during the meal. I took a lot of pictures of the place so you guys could see what it is like down there. I hope you enjoy!

This is the T.V. room, it is set up for the Christmas dinner, normally there are chairs in here.

As you can see they have rooms where you can get some sleep. This helps when your on the streets in the cold at night...

We served a lot of people and had fun doing it today!

What you don't see here is the 300 plus people that came through or the small gift bags we gave to them, because I was too busy working to take pictures. We gave each consumer a bag with gloves, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and a $5 gift card.

It is a good thing to serve others and remember where you come from...Especially on Christmas! If you have enjoyed this post and would like to read more about a hard-core drug addict that has been redeemed by Jesus, please follow and support me.
