Have you ever been in that position where you felt like God wanted you to be somewhere else?
Do you feel like where you are is the wrong location for you? Have you been burdened with the need to change your location and live somewhere else?
Have you felt like you're not where God wants you to be?
I Know that Feeling.
I've been there where I was sleeping and waking up everyday but I had no sense of fulfilment because I knew I was where God didn't want me to be.
It seemed as though God had moved but I was still holding on to my own bias that attached me to that place.
I knew I had to relocate somewhere else but I wasn't sure for a while where I was to move to.
Situations had beclouded the clear direction I received from God to the point that I wasn't sure any more if it was God who spoke to me.
I needed clarity and I needed it really bad. I was done living in a state where it felt like I was missing it.
Your Location Matters
You see, God cares a lot about your location. He's the boss. He equips you and sends you to function from a certain place.
He doesn't owe you any explanation as to why that's the place you should be at and we really don't need any explanation (because it's always best for us to be where He intends).
He sends you somewhere to use the gifts He has given you and He prepares everything you'd ever need to function there even before you arrive.
Some Examples
God instructed Abraham to leave his father's house and travel to a place that He, God, would tell him of. Abraham left in compliance with God's instruction, not knowing exactly where he was going.
God used Joseph's brothers to relocate him from his hometown to Egypt. They thought they were bringing his dreams to an end but they only helped bring him closer to the place of his honour.
When there was a drought in Israel, God ordered Elijah to go to a certain brook and hide himself there. God arranged for birds to bring him food there, morning and evening every day for a long time.
These are just a few examples to show how much value God places on you being where He wants you to be and on you not being where you shouldn't be.
So, how do you know for sure where God wants you to be?
The answer I want to give isn't the only way to know but it's a very good way to know this. It's what God used to answer the question once and for all for me.
Almost 10 years ago I was reading a book by a dear man of God by the name of Tommy Lee Osborn. As I read the book fire was lit in my heart. I had no idea the book was going to be a reference point for the rest of my life.
The Analogy that Changed my Life
He talked about how important it is to serve people with the gift God has given you and how that those who serve are those doing what God wants them to do. He made an analogy I will attempt to paraphrase below.
Let's say ten men are moving a log of wood from one point to another and there are nine men at the smaller and lighter end but only one man at the large heavy end.
If you really want to help out, you don't need to ask God to show you where to put your hand.
Those who care about pleasure will join the men who are at the lighter end but anyone who really wants to serve and see that the work is done with speed, will join the man struggling to move the heavy end.
This is how life is really. The moment I read that, my eyes opened and it seemed as though Heaven's light flooded my heart. I heard the voice of God in my heart telling me exactly where to go and what city to live in.
Are you seeking comfort or wanting to make a difference? Do you really want to serve or you just want to have a fun filled life where you never really make any impact? Are you interested in going your skills and gifts to make the world a better place?
If yes, then hear what T. L Osborn says,
You ought to go where the need is greatest and the labourers are fewest!"
Friends, as you think about where God wants you to be located, remember that God always thinks of helping people. Don't put your own comfort first. Think first about where your service all make the most impact.
You're Blessed!
I shared this today because I feel someone needs this. I'd like to get your feedback in the comment section.
1. How has this post helped you?
2. Is there a place God is laying in your heart that also looks like the place where the need to serve is greatest?
