The fool

in christian •  7 years ago

The man who hears Christ’s words and yet builds his life on a rejection of that revelation is a fool (Matt. 7:26), and the man who suppresses God’s general revelation in the created realm is also described as a fool (Rom. 1:18).

It is quite clear, then, that a fool is one who does not make God and His revelation the starting point (the presupposition) of his thinking. Fools despise the preaching of the cross, refuse to know God, and cannot receive God’s word (1 Cor. 1-2).

The self-proclaimed autonomous man, the unbeliever, will not submit to the word of God or build his life and thinking upon it. Disbelief and ignorance of God’s will, therefore, produce foolishness (1 Cor. 15:36; Eph. 5:17).

Hiya gideondelta

You've used the #atheist tag so I'm sure you're trying to reach atheists like me with these quotes...

The Jesus character in the bible says some pretty interesting things and there's a lot of wisdom and compassion. This wisdom was already known and written down in earlier religious and philosophical and mythological writings.

Jesus also said some stupid stuff (turning people against their families; not to make provisions for tomorrow; unbelievers will be tortured for all eternity in Hell, etc.).

I have the opposite opinion to these quotes you shared.

If you wanna look like a fool, swallow whatever they say without evidence.

If you wanna look like a fool, do verbal and mental gymnastics to get around facts that clash with those in a book written by people who had a much smaller understanding of the universe.

Of course, at the time these things were written down, rational minds would doubt their veracity. Of course those wanting to influence these minds would pull out every tactic in the book. Insulting a person's intelligence by calling them a fool if they couldn't SEE THE TRUTH is a sure-fire way of convincing the person sensitive to this kind of childishness.

LOL

You posted under the atheist tag and downvote me for having an opposing opinion. I’ve returned the favour.

That was actually a mistake I made when scrolling the post on my phone earlier. I apologize for the mistake and I've removed the down vote. I do appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to dialogue. That said, I'll reply to your OC shortly.

Here's more feedback...

What's that rule about bearing false witness?

I don't believe you!

You seem to like flagging people. I notice you downvoted @theabsolute for posting a gif you didn't like. Maybe you think you're the great moral judge for all Steemit content.

Here's the rub: there are always gonna be people whose opinions differ from ours. Sensible adults work this out via dialogue. If you go around being an uppity flag-happy type, expect consequences.

Sorry about not responding to you earlier. I've been recovering from surgery and sick to boot. As you can see from my feed, I haven't been on Steemit. Hence, why I haven't yet replied to your post.

The button is labeled "Dislike" (at least here on Busy) so I used it as a "Dislike".

But this leads me to an interesting question... According to your worldview, what's wrong with bearing false witness? Because, I see, you had to steal from mine to accuse me of wrong doing.

Sensible adults work this out via dialogue. If you go around being an uppity flag-happy type, expect consequences.

Sensible adults... according to what standard? What defines "sensible" according to you? What objective standard do you have that I, or anyone else can use, to define sensible which transcends person, place, culture, and time? Or is this merely your opinion which I can dismiss?

Ultimately, why should anyone care about your opinion on what sensible adults do or your "consequences"? And I don't mean that to be argumentative, but as an honest question.

As for the original truthfulness of my statement, I stand by it. I have no reason to be apologetic for a downvote on an Internet forum. I've downvoted many people before and been downvoted many times myself. I had no reason to "bear false witness" regarding the downvote. If I had meant it, I'd have kept it in place.

Now, are you interested in an actual conversation or a petty squabbling over thumbs up and thumbs down?

I'm too busy for this sort of nonsense at the moment but I'm slightly triggered by your nasty approach. First off, you accuse me of 'stealing'!!!

I used a quote from a book that is available to anyone who can read to help you see your hypocrisy. I didn't steal anything.

Like most people, I think lying is a negative quality, therefore wrong.

If you don't understand what a sensible person is then I'm very sorry for you. Google may be more helpful. Try that.

You talk like some other obnoxious Christian I came across in here. Maybe you all recycle your favourite 'atheists must all be nihilists' crap. I'm not going to fall down that circular rabbit hole again and waste any more of my time.

In all honesty, I'm not interested in having a conversation with you at this time. I've got a lot on and really can't be bothered. Maybe at some point in the future when I've got more spare time to fart about.
