What do you hear or see?

When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, There is a sound of war in the camp." Moses replied: "It is not the sound of victory, it is not the sound of defeat; it is the sound of singng that I hear." Exodus 32:17-18 (NIV)

• Two great men of God, Moses and Joshua his aide, had been in the mountain with God for forty days and nights. God spoke to Moses face to face. Joshua witnessed it all. On two tablets of stone had God, in His own finger, written the commandments Moses brought along down the mountain.
  
• But while up the mountain, the Israelites thought they delayed and asked Aaron to make them gods to worship. Aaron did and the people worshiped it and began to celebrate in feasting and singing. That was the singing and shouts Moses and Joshua heard as they came down. Joshua misjudged/misinterpreted the sound. Sometimes well meaning servants of God may misjudge the signs, sounds and sights they encounter and give a wrong message. It requires utmost sensitivity.

Nature has sounds, sights and signs each with a meaning. For example, a dark cloud, lightning and thunder mean rain is coming. God too, has and speaks through sounds, sights and signs and expects us to rightly interpret and respond to them. Jesus warned us to watch the signs of the times, including the things we will see and hear indicating how soon His return is(Matt 24).

• As we watch them around the world today, some think these are mere social, economic or political events as usual. They will treat them casually, ignore and continue to eat and drink and indulge in sin as it was in the days of Noah. It was until Noah entered the ark and rain began that they woke up to the reality of the warning signs, but too late.

• The sensitive child of God will see, hear and understand what they mean, and prepare themselves accordingly. God operates in seasons and times. What signs do you see or hear for the world, nation, family or your life?
  Be like the men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do 200 chiefs with all their relatives under their command (1 Chron 12:32).
