With your name you can be marked good or bad.

As a new born baby, the next thing that follows is your name that people can use to identify you.

Names can be buried and names can be announced. The meaning of your name identifies who you represent. Your name can be used either positively or negatively. I have read cases in the Bible where God changed the names of some great men in other to fix them into their destiny. I have also read some cases in the Bible where God named some certain persons before they were born.

Names changed by God:

From Abram to Abraham. (Genesis 17:5)
From Jacob to Israel. (Genesis 35:9)
From Sarai to Sarah. (Genesis 17:15)

Names given by God:

Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:20)
John the Baptist (Luke1:13).

Abram was the name given to him by his parent, the first thing God did was to ask him to leave his parent house to a strange land because his father was an idol worshipper. Inorder for God to disconnect his name from his family altar, God asked him to leave. Abraham was 75yrs old when God asked him to leave his Father's house. For good 75yrs the name Abram was working against him, nothing to show forth, because his father has dedicated the name to his idol. The man Abraham have a good spirit but his name was limiting him so God decided to step in to be of help to him. Despite Abraham left, God was watching over him even in the distance land, the name was still working against him because the name has not been changed. God then appeared to Abraham at the of 95yrs old and God identify His name to Abraham and said.

"I am El-shaiddai- God Almighty. Serve me faithfully and leave a blameless life, I will make a covenant with you by wish I will guarantee to give you countless descendants. At this, Abraham fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him, this is my covenant with you, I will make the father of multitude of nation. What's more, am changing your name, it will no longer be Abram but you will be called Abraham for you will be the father of many nations".

If God Himself can change our names from bad to good, the devil himself can mark our names from good to bad.

Proverbs 22:22 says: "A good name is better than silver and gold". God cares about your name and He does not want your name to be stained and polluted. Once your name is stained you are stained. Protect your name, don't allow the devil to stain your name. Don't allow material things to stain your name because your name can be used against you either positively or negatively.

I shall drop my pen here. Stay tuned for Episode 2.

This is so true. I was talking to some group of people in my office about this same issue. Some parents don't even bother to check the meaning of the names they give their children, as long as the name is found in the Bible they feel it's okay.

My parents named me Mary at birth, but when they found out that Mary means bitterness, they stopped calling me Mary and wiped it out from my birth certificate.

Parents are advised to always check out for the meaning of some names before giving their children such names, even if those names are found in the Bible.

You made a good call here @eucharis!
Tnx for your comment. Parents really need to watch out for the kind of names they give to their children in other for their future to be secured.

You are welcome friend. Nice write-up indeed. More greeze to your elbow!

Tnx bro, for your comment

This is an eye opener

you got me on this. your name is your identity

This is damn true
I learned this when I when for a naming ceremony a certain time.

Although I have a good name(I am called Favour at home) which is also my name.

But then, they shortened it to Fe, after that ceremony, I got back home and told everyone to call me by my full name and not shorten it

Lols!
Better to call the one you know its meaning than for you to be called what you don't know.

Tnx for your comment @julietisrael
