So we've been brainwashed with words like "job" (also see Part 2 of this series) that cloud what we're really supposed to be doing in life.
Another word is "vocation". When you hear the word, what do you think of? A trade? A job? An occupation? The word comes from the Latin for "calling", so vocation is really about finding your calling.
So fellow Christian, do you know what you are called to do in life? Most people don't. A good way to start to find out is to know what your spiritual gifts are. Do you know what your spiritual gifts are? Most people don't. We'll discuss this in a future post.
What about the word "career"? Most people think of their future, usually connected with what jobs they'll have. Yet the word comes from the French word "carrière", meaning "highway" or "path". So what it probably refers to more is your path(s) in life, in which we should trust in the Lord to direct us:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6
