I told you my sins, and I am sorry for them. (Psalm 38:18)
Why is repentance necessary? If the Lord knows that we are sinful, fallen people who cannot be righteous by our own efforts, then why must we confess our sins to Him at all? Yes, He knows that we are very weak and fallen vessels, but He cares so much for us that He is willing to tolerate our presence in His universe, in fact, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross at calvary to pay for all our sins, every one we have made, are doing, and will do in the future!
He wants us here on the world that He created for Himself and for His children, in a universe of awesome majesty, to care and provide for his little ones, to love them with all of His heart, and all He asks of us is to have faith in Him, believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, and to live for Him forever.
He knows that we cannot be righteous without the atoning blood of His Son, The Lamb Of God, and that we must be remade into God's image by the indwelling presence and love of the Holy Spirit, who guides us and encourages us to pray and to worship our God, gives us the knowledge of who God is by the reading of His word, and the Holy Spirit also transforms our hearts and minds with His power, His compassion, and His love!
Repentance is not for God's sake, for He knows everything about us and does not need to be reminded of our weaknesses; repentance is a necessary tool for our spiritual growth. We cannot be truthful with ourselves and with God if we cannot bear to see ourselves in the truth of God's light and His word. If you cannot see the problem, then you cannot fix it.
That is why we need to stay in His presence and to take time out everyday just to be with Him. That is where confession is the most effective, for you can talk to Him as your Lord and as your friend. He will listen to everything that you have to say to Him, encourage yourself in the Lord, give Him utterance as you lift up your hands in praise and gratitude, as you meditate on His word, as you declare His word over your problems, issues, and illnesses. Let Him know how you feel about everything that is going on in your life, then ask Him for revelation, deliverance, and peace... You Won't Regret It!
A very good reminder to us all. Thank you.
