Bible Text: Acts 6:1-4
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of
the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration.Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, it is not
reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.Wherefore, brethren, look ye out
among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may
appoint over this business.But we will give ourselves continually to prayer,and to the ministry of the word

EXPLAINATION

Our text states that the number of the disciples multiplied and there arose a murmuring from the camp of
the Grecians because their widows were being neglected.This is an indication that growth, regardless of
the type, shape or form can create its own challenges if not properly managed.Hence it is not unusual for
an organization, ministry or a person to ignore or neglect certain areas of their organization or personal
life when they experience growth or an individual rise into a place of prominence. Our text highlights the
fact that the Grecian widows had been neglected and the time dedicated for the disciples to give
themselves to the ministry of God's Word and Prayer was on the verge of being encumbered by growth,
because they would have had to spend more time than expected serving tables.The fact that the disciples
were aware of the murmuring emanating from the camp of the Grecians is an indication that they were not
disconnected from the people they were leading.This also means that they had their ears to the ground
and by this singular act we must give them some credit for not allowing the prevalent success to
disconnect them from the people.This is because when an organization grows, systems and structures
are put in place to manage the growth, which by default creates a divide between leadership and the
people, invariably making them unable to feel the pulse of the people. Such a situation requires the
leadership to rely on their team in order to know the pulse of the people they are leading.The downside of
this is that it could lead to misinformation if the team saddled with this responsibility is bent on mischief. I
believe that for an individual to lead effectively, he or she must remain connected to the people they are
leading no matter the position they occupy.Because the disciples remained connected to the people they
were leading, they were able to quickly nip the murmuring of the Grecians in the bud. Apart from this, as
stated earlier, the disciples were on the verge of being taken away from their primary responsibility which
was the ministry of the word and prayer.This is why they had to quickly appoint seven men to take over the
responsibility of serving tables. Many of us have become victims of our success and have neglected the
place of fasting, prayer and the study of God's word by easing into a place of convenience.We need to ask
God for grace, that as we become successful in the work of God, we will not forget the God of the work.We
also need to ask God for the grace to remain in tune with reality of the on goings of the organization we are
leading despite our successes or growth and that we don't forget the place of fasting, prayer and the study of God's word

Prayer

Father, I ask for the grace to remain in YOU and not get carried away with the trappings associated with
growth and success in Jesus Name. I declare I will not get carried away with MY work to the point
where I forget YOU, the GOD of the work in Jesus Name. I ask for the grace to remain in tune with YOU
through a disciplined lifestyle of prayer, fasting and the study of YOUR word in Jesus Name.
