Calamity at Costco!

in christianity •  7 years ago

Today I had the opportunity to provide aid to a severely injured young woman, and it happened in a Costco parking lot.

Let me tell you the story...

Monday argh!!!

Monday mornings are the days we have staff meetings here at the Ministry and they are always either heated and lively or very monotonous. Today though I was looking forward to 1:30 when I was meeting my new landlord to sign the lease to my new apartment.

It was going to be a good day regardless if I had to do staff meeting and a 4 hour class until 10 tonight, I didn't care I was going to have a good day!

Running residents.

After staff meeting there is an A.A. meeting from 12 until 1 and that is when I took my shower. I knew that one of the residents had a doctors appointment at 1 so I was just going to go with him and then go sign my lease.

At least that is what I thought was going to happen.

Going to Costco.

The guy that had the doctor appointment was located right down the road from Costco and that is where we do the shopping for the Ministry. I am the one responsible for that and I have the card, which I use at times for personal stuff. I just don't use the tax exempt status so it's no big deal.

Today as we were dropping him off my landlord called and pushed the time back until 1:45, so I had a little time. I figured I would go into Costco and see if there is something I needed for my new apartment. I mean toilet paper, cleaning stuff, I need all of that still.

I went in the store and looked around, but I didn't see anything I could really get right then until I actually got my place clean and painted the way I want and stuff. I did buy a shoe rack as I am quite the aficionado...

Leaving the store.

As me and the guy driving were leaving the store I happened to turn around when I heard a woman laughing. I was just in time to see her pop a "Wheelie" with her shopping cart. All of a sudden she slipped and fell face first. The shopping cart handle came down on her fingers hard.

We immediately asked her if she was O.K. and she assured us she was. She started calling herself an idiot because she had spilled her pre-made food. I tried to calm her and assure her she just made a mistake. All of a sudden she asked me if I though she should get her hands looked at and walked closer.

When I looked at her hands, it was clear she was injured badly. I could see bone on several of her knuckles and the wounds were starting to bleed.

I told the lady that she needed to see a doctor quickly as she would most likely go into shock soon. Sure enough, a few seconds later her hands were gushing blood and she was screaming and crying. I asked her gently as she continued to call herself names if we could please take her to the urgent care, but she was worried about her groceries.

I finally didn't give her a real option and told her we were a Ministry, look see, it's on the sign right on the van. I am going to put your stuff in your car and take you to the urgent care O.K.? It is right around the corner, please?

She agreed and allowed me to get in her purse to get her keys and phone. I got a box lid and put it under her hands so she wouldn't get blood on her clothes while we put her stuff in her car quickly. We then got her and her son into our van and drove her about 2 blocks to an urgent care.

Leaving anonymous.

when we got her into the urgent care, the nurses came right out and took her in the back. I gave them her phone and we left. I knew she was in good care and I didn't want anything for helping. I just wanted her to be O.K.

To be honest I was very uncomfortable hearing her put herself down the way she was, and could only think about the message it sent her young son...

I pray she doesn't really think so low of herself.

Going to sign my lease.

I called my landlord and told her what had happened, it was O.K. because she was running late too. I met with her and signed my lease, and now I have an apartment!

I went to the cable company and got my internet set up, then bought lunch for my compadres before I had to get to class. Now it is late and I am tired, but I wanted to share my day with you guys. I hate the fact that the lady was hurt but I am very thankful that we were there to help her!

I go to clean and paint Wednesday, God is good!
