A sinner's prayer is a prayer said when someone wants to repent of there sins and ask God for forgiveness.

It is the type of prayer that you will use to lead someone who isn't saved into endless salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Why Is It Called Sinner's Prayer?

According to www.bible-knowledge.com:

The reason they have labeled it the Sinner’s Prayer is because the Bible tells us that we are all dead in our sins and trespasses until we get saved and born again by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Through church services, families and friends many people have come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ by leading them in a prayer of salvation.

We should remember that, it is not the words you say in prayer that saves. Jesus Christ alone has the power to save through faith.

Is The Sinner’s Prayer Scriptural Or Not?

"YES" or "NO"???

It is scriptural for a sinner to pray for forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

It isn’t scriptural to declare someone save because of reciting the sinner’s prayer.

It is scriptural to admit one’s sin and request absolution and put faith, trust and hope in Jesus.

However, once more, it isn’t scriptural to give someone assurance of salvation based on saying a prayer (or simply reciting the words).

In this way, we need to be clear that the elements of a sinner’s prayer are scriptural.

However, we additionally need to be certain that a person is not saved “because he recited a prayer”.

Assurance, hope and faith should not be put in the prayer. Rather, assurance, hope and faith ought to be put in Christ by means of proper presentation of the saving message .

The Sinner’s Prayer

Everyone uses a different wording when reciting the prayer out loud (telling those to repeat after them the exact wording of the prayer). Keeping in mind the goal is to get them saved through Christ.

In this article, I’ll share a straight forward and simple sinner’s prayer by John Barnett, that you can use to lead someone to the Lord when they are prepared to make the step.

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Totally agree, may our lord and savior JesusChrist be exalted on steemit through posts like this. Jesus is life, is relationship, nor religion! Blessings from Venezuela. Keep us in your prayers!

That is very interesting! When I listen to the Christian radio broadcast and they use a pre recording to lead people to Christ...at the end...they say something along the lines "You are now a Christian." I understand and get your post almost 100% I dont want to be a liar by accident lol.

I guess when we lead others through the sinners prayer, we can also say, because you put your faith in Christ as Lord and Savior you are saved...(if you truly didnt...then I guest not. haha) and your Christian walk is now beginning. The Holy Spirit will help you live that Christian lifestyle now when you keep a close intimate walk with God.

When I converted to Christianity from Buddhism, no one taught me the importance on the "relationship with God" I heard of it but I did not know how it looked practically. I learned about Bible Doctrine but without a foundation or relationship with Jesus, my Bible knowledge didnt matter. People needed to see Jesus in me, the change.

Anyhow. Thanks for sharing! FYI I like your Naruto UCHIHA Profile Pic. I am not sure if it is Madara. Haha.

Well said @dadup

People needed to see Jesus in me, the change.

When someone takes the to step earn salvation... A change is required, not only noticeable by you but also by the people around.

Thank you for sharing your life experience. Salvation is open to anyone as long as they are willing to accept Christ!

Haha... That is Madara! You aren't mistaken man :)

You are very right... But I will like to ask a question.... Apart from praying for salvation, is it acceptable for a sinner to make other requests? What about those sinners who pray before going to commit a crime.. Is it also acceptable?
