The ticking clock - Anticipation of an undesired trip

For almost everyone, making plans for a trip sounds great, specially if it is a trip to a different country, where you can get to know a lot from cultures. You set the date. You make the calculations of the money you will require for all the expenses involved in a trip. You dream of the kind of activities you can get to do in that place. And once the departing time arrives all your relatives are very happy for you, they wish you good, and you leave. This is the regular round-about of a trip. But not for Venezuelans.

My wife and I have travelled to different places, although it has always been inside the country. We had dreamed of going visiting friends in the U.S., Chile, or even relatives in Spain. Of course, it has always been a dream or a delayed plan, due to the economical situation of the country. We often put some money away for savings, but we always ended up eating up the savings. Never the less, we saw it hard for us to go living abroad.

Now the situation is different. There is a bigger economical pressure. There is a growing worry. Taking the decision took some time. We as Christians did not want to escape the country. It has been economically difficult, but praise the Lord our table has always been plenty of food. We started praying for God´s will in our lives almost two years ago, and in our prayer we asked the Lord to show us the way, to give us signs, to fill our hearts with peace. I opened my profile on several job search web sites and began sending my resume to open positions in some South American countries. And in November last year, I received a job offer for teaching at an English Institute in Peru. We immediately identify it as God's guidance. We said we would see more of God's will if we could obtain all the required documents legalized, since doing this is very tricky and expensive in my country. Again, God led us in talking to the right people, going to the right places at the right hours, and we got all our documents legalized. There was another challenge for the journey. I needed to sell the car so I had enough money for the trip, and I did. Even though, I did not sell it on the price I wished.

Here is the bitter point, I do not have enough money for taking my wife and my two kids with me on the same trip. So I have to leave alone, and be away from my family for about 5 month while I save enough money to buy the flight tickets. It is a big sacrifice for my wife, because she is going to have to deal with the two kids on her own, keep up the house, and work. It is a big sacrifice for my kids also, because they are used to waiting for me when I come back from work so we can play, fool around, watch TV and do homework. Thank God the rest of my family supports us.

Thinking on all these things may set me down, or even depressed. But there is a different feeling coming from my heart. I have the peace and certainty that God gives to those that search for His will.

Time is going by, expectation is growing big, feelings are getting touchy, but I am sure that God supports those who trust Him and put their plans on His hands.
