Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians reminded us that Jesus came to redeem humanity from their sins, and to reconcile, like a new Adam, the mankind with God. God grants us his immense grace through the faith in our Lord Jesus continued Paul, so that men stop living according to the dictates of the flesh to live according to what the spirit orders. Paul reminded to the christians of the church of Ephesus what their situation was before they knew Christ: "You were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient" Ephesians 2:1-2.
Because as Psalm 1 says, the Psalm of the two ways, we have to choose between righteousness ("Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12) and sin: "For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction" Psalm 1:6.
Paul told us about the importance of being born again Christians: "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved" Ephesians 2:4-5.
But reborn to what? we could logically ask ourselves. And the answer is very simple, reborn to that perfect love, which is the love projected towards the whole creation of God, to that love that makes us similar to God in essence. In Greek this love is called Agape, for the ancient Greek philosophers, this is the Platonic love, the unconditional love. In the gospels written in the Greek language when Christ taught, to designate the word "love", Jesus always used the word "Agape."
The entry of sin into the world meant a break in the relationship with God, but Christ calls us to reestablish that primordial relationship that humanity had through his love (Agape) and grace, Paul reminded us.
