The Book of Acts tells how the first Christians founded the church of Antioch. The creation of this spiritual community of believers in Jesus occurred according to the narration of the Book of Acts after the martyrdom of Stephen, many Christians for fear of persecution dispersed to the regions near Jerusalem, such as Phenicia, Syria, Phrygia, and Galatia.
And in this way, the new religion acquired a new dimension, because the new faith was preached not only to the Jews, but also to the pagans who welcomed the faith with a good heart. And the Book of Acts tells something else, the believers received the name Christians in the city of Antioch for the first time.
Many people filled with the holy spirit, the spirit of wisdom, like the apostle Paul, preached the gospel, which was still transmitted orally, teaching how the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, was opposed to oppression, ignorance, and deception; from this fact the Church of Antioch became a center for the dissemination of Christianity towards Europe, specifically the Greek and Roman world, and thus converting the Christianity into the first world religion in human history.
As lord Jesus had predicted with his parables, a new Israel no longer according to the flesh but according to the dictates of the spirit had to emerge, and bring in this way a new hope to a humanity fallen by the nature of sin.
With these words, the Book of Acts recounts the founding of the Church of Antioch:
"Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.
The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord" Acts 11:19-21.
