Have you ever been waiting on an important phone call? You sit anxiously waiting for the phone to ring to receive a call bearing news. When it is a good report, we are more often relieved than excited.
The worst news I ever received was via phone. I remember when my mother was going into surgery. I was unable to attend. We were right in the middle of preparing our annual budgets at work and were up against the deadline. My brother was at the hospital and said he would call me once momma was out of surgery. The phone rang and my brother delivered the bad news that our momma had died on the operating table. That was not good news.
Alexander Graham Bell’s invention will ring an innumerable amount of times in our life here on earth. Some calls will be eagerly anticipated, others will be dreaded. There are calls that we will miss because we were not available. There are others that we will simply ignore because we deem them unimportant or a nuisance. However, there is one call that we would be wise to not ignore, and yet many people do. The most important call that any of us will ever receive is the call to walk with and know our Maker.
God's Call
In the Bible, the word “call” is used most often to refer to God's initiative to bring people into relationship with Him and alignment with His purpose. This call is most often centered on His redemptive work found in Christ. This understanding of calling can be clearly seen in Paul’s writings. Even when the word “call” is not clearly used, it is clearly seen.
Hosea 2:23; Hosea 11:1; 2 Chron. 7:14; Rom. 1:6; Rom8:28; 1 Tim. 2:4; 2Cor. 5:17-20;
Genesis 1:3 “ And God said ‘Let there be light’. God calls the light out of the darkness. Have you ever been in a dark unfamiliar place? We find ourselves instinctively reaching for and desiring light. Even if the surroundings are familiar, it is much easier to get from Point A to Point B, when we can see where we are going. And when we are not sure which way to go?
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8
None of us came to this earth to stay. We are all passing through. Therefore we should see life as a journey, with a starting point and a destination point. The world is a dark place and the true light of this world comes from God Himself. The call of God is for us to come out of the darkness and walk into the light of a relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. God has a wonderful plan and He wants us to be a part of it.
That is the call that everyone must and needs to respond to.
I have waited
