Ho ho Steemians!

First of all I want to thank @artistchristian for making this awesome thumbnail for us!

One of my favourite holidays is around the corner: Christmas. A time of getting together with our loved onces and giving gifts to each other. Especially, the kids in our family gets really excited for this day.

What I like most about Christmas is, apart from receiving presents, is the joy I see on my family member's faces when they receive their gifts. Nothing beats the grin they get when there are tearing down the paper wrappage. When I give presents to my little cousins it's funny how they always start jumping.

However due to various circumstances like family moving away etc... we have celebrated Christmas less often like we used to.

Many people in the world don't celebrate Christmas or don't even have the chance to celebrate it. Steemit has connected many individuals around the world and has gifted many people opportunities that were not possible before, which is in line with the spirit of Christmas: Giving back to others.

This year I found a new family and that is the promo-steem community. Our group is relative new but I already feel connected to many.

Therefore I am holding a Christmas event with as central theme:

How it works

Each 3 days up to Christmas (25 december) there will be a different event for which there are prizes to win.

For the first event:

Write about the most memorable gift someone has given you. What was it? And when was it? How did it make you feel?
The top 3 comments who receives the most votes will receive 2.5 STEEM plus 100% of the SBD rewards of this post. Which is divided in:
1. First ------ 50%
2. Second -- 30%
3. Third----- 20%

ADDITIONALLY, as a curator for @curie and @ocd I will curate new steemians, which are approximately max. 3 months old, who have written a decent comment.

All my christmas has been spent in solo but something changed for me this year. I am going to have the best christmas this year because i got an amazing gift that still brings tears to my eyes as am typing this! That gift is, seeing children happy as a result of an event i held for them yesterday to giveback love to them that steemit has shown me ... I was so glad to see the children so joyous as i handed them the christmas packages. This is the best christmas present i have recieved so far... I just made a post about it, capturing every beautiful moment.

Early this year i got to my place of work just for me to receive a brand new iPhone 6s from my office management as best performance staff of the month of January February March and April. It was really unbelievably for in just few year's of my experience towards the job knowledge having the best KPI was just a favour from God.

It happened on the 11th of September 2014. I was in a class when I saw a call from my dad. I had to pick this call because I had been waiting for it since the day before; so I excused myself and got outside. I still recall how I screamed because it got the attention of the other students and some lecturers that were in a class. You see I had been an only child for close to two decades. I still recall crying whenever I saw other kids with their siblings at events and I kept asking God for mine too. When I first got the news that the answers to that prayer was on the way I refused to put much hope as it wasn't the first time..... God did it this time. He gave me a precious gift, my baby brother. It has been a wonderful experience and even as I type this the joy in my heart is immeasurable

I think that Christmas times are always a good time to give a gift in particular, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a physical gift, because in my case, 5 years ago, on December 24,2012, with all the fear of the world I told my family that I am gay, and I was waiting for rejection because I grew up in a strictly Catholic home, and to my surprise, the best gift I was given was to tell me, calm son, you are ours son and that is not a defect, if God sent you this way, it is because he has a purpose with you, so he counts on us all, and just at that moment I felt a happiness that I never understood, and I understood that Christmas brings you good times and gifts like those, that never forget.

Estaba estudiando mi primer año de bachillerato. Llegaba la Navidad. Jugamos el amigo secreto. Me gustaba una de las chicas que estudiaban conmigo. Me sentí muy feliz cuando supe que yo era su amigo secreto. El regalo era un paquete de jabones de tocador. No era un regalo apropiado para mi, pero venía de la chica que me gustaba. Eso era lo importante para mi. Eso me hizo muy feliz.

I was studying my first year of high school. Christmas was coming. We played the secret friend. I liked one of the girls who studied with me. I felt very happy when I knew I was his secret friend. The gift was a pack of toilet soaps. It wasn't a suitable gift for me, but it came from the girl I liked. That was the important thing to me. That made me very happy.

The gift that I've received which I consider memorable would be the gift of LIFE that God has given me each and every day. I am thankful enough for this gift because without it, I may not be here in this world today and I may never get the chance to meet/know the amazing people in my life right now whom I really care about. I really treasure this with all my heart because God has granted me another day to catch a glimpse of this wonderful world I'm in and for a reason, that He has extended my time for me to help those who are in need. People just come and go, we never know if we could still continue to live on tomorrow. That's the reason why I cherish and spend my time left to service with God, and to my family. ❤ Merry Christmas in advance everyone! :) - Shane

To be honest, I am not so lucky to receiving gifts. I love giving gifts If I am able to afford it at any time be it festive time or not. I sometimes cook and give out to people. The best and most important of my gift is when I love someone for whatever reason it may be. I am not talking about a relationship Love. I have that for my "Good Man" but I am talking about a friendship kind of Love. I give my full support to that person and make sure to help the person in all my capacity to do so.

So receiving gift.....Hmmmm I received a gift from my "Good Man". He do give me gifts and I do appreciate it a lot. Reason because he is the only one that do gift me present every time.
The most memorable gift I received was from him. It was a perfume. He gifted me last week. I love the perfume as it was my favourite. I have been complaining about the perfumes at home and I decide not to use any. That Monday afternoon, He came in and said "Dear, I got something for you. I was like what is it but did not look at his face. Then He just put it in front of me.
smiles I was smiling without saying anything but thanks but still continue smiling. I was happy he bought the perfume and on top of that, He bought a snack from Mcdonald with it. I was smiling throughout that day because I was not expecting it.

Someone might say that the gift is not that big but to me it worth more than you can imagine because it came from my darling one.

Bien. El mejor regalo que he recibido fue un llavero de mundito. Sí, como el que Pinky le regaló a Cerebro. Pues en dos navidades anteriores nos habíamos quedado en un motel viendo el especial, precisamente de Pinky y Cerebro ( ¿recuerdan el especial de navidad? de las caricaturas de WB Animaniacs)
Mis papás tenían poco de haberse divorciado y mi papá presumía de ser espléndido, mientras que mi mamá batallaba con el día a día alargando los pesos. Tenía 16 años.
Siempre dividíamos la navidad en dos, primero con los abuelos paternos, cenas muy formales, y después la cena con la abuela materna ya en pijamas. Pero después del divorcio, no se hayaban, aunque tratamos de seguir con esa misma fórmula
Esos días estaba fúrica pues mi papá había pecado de ser muy impositivo; si no estaba con él, no tendría nada. No tendría dinero para ropa, ni comprar regalos, ni nada. Hablé con él, me dejó plantada como tres veces, me hizo esperarlo horas. Entonces, en un acto de (quiero pensar) rebeldía decidí que nada, y me quedé a pasar esos días en el departamentito de mi abuela en México con mi mamá.
Y entonces al momento del intercambio de regalos, yo me atranganté con las lágrimas pues no tenía nada (lo poco que había ganado en el trabajo se había ido) y mi mamá con mucho sentimiento, me regaló mi llavero de mundito; lo había comprado en el metro con el poco dinero que le quedaba.
Toda la acritud y el resentimiento se me desvanecieron.
Ese era mi regalo más preciado... hasta que después se lo tragó mi perro.

Mi abuela en cada navidad nos regalaba a cada miembro de la familia una bolsa de galletas, hechas por ella misma, desde la bolsa de tela con algún bordado hasta las galletas. El regalo que más me ha llenado mi alma, es justo hace 2 años cuando estaba muy enferma, a causa de ello, perdió su visión casi un 90%, pero eso no le impidió cumplir su ilusión de cada año darnos un detalle, le hicieron las galletas y su hija mayor le guió para hacer las bolsas, ella las llenó... las repartió con tanto amor, que mi mente en ese momento se llenó de todos los años que lo hizo, hasta el último que estuvo con nosotros, pese a su debilidad y su falta de visión no se rindió y hasta una piñata hizo! Ese último año ya no tuvo fuerzas para entregarlos personalmente, pero todos a llenarla de besos!

Christmas for me is something so special. The joy is increasingly felt when the gathering moment of the whole family.

In my family there is no tradition of gift exchange like most people do. We celebrate Christmas as a simple celebration, like Jesus who was born in a simple cage.

We have a habit of christmas that begins with the Christmas Eve Mass, then the event continues with dinner while praying together.
Well then the next day our family did a holiday. Such is the tradition of my family's Christmas celebration.

2016 is a Christmas that is so special for me, different from the usual without gift. This Christmas I get a gift from someone. He gave it right after the Christmas Eve celebration.
A small box with red ribbons.
When I open the box, a ring is in it. Then he said, will you marry me?
And I saidd, yes I do.
That is the most beautiful Christmas present in my life that is not forgotten.

My best gift was my first dog, I was three years old when he came to us. He was a really small furry ball, I remember his big brown eyes and long ears. He was a German shepherd, a big one really I can't remember if he was mixed, but he was bigger than average. We grew up together, all my childhood and part of my teen ages he was always next to me, almost all my kids memories are related to this dog. He died when he was 13, I was 16 years old, and it was the hardest thing ever, and the biggest of all gifts was the one he gave me, teaching me how to love and understand a dog, or even any animal in the world, we should respect more all the animal life, and learn more from them.

The most memorable gift I receive isn’t just memorable because of the gift itself, but because of the doors it end up opening to me at the time.

It was Christmas 2009 and I was still in school and have been months being amazed at my friends iPhone and how it measure the device movements when playing. It was incredible but I knew it was too expensive.

So in those years, my country Venezuela wasn’t in a bad economical shape as it is now, so my dad was able to afford an iPod Touch as a surprise gift for me! For those of you who doesn’t know what an iPod Touch is, it was just like an iPhone but without phone capabilities and way cheaper.

After that, I started to get involved in online communities about this devices, met incredible people and even ended up being a moderator in one Spanish forum! And the learning, I learned everything about iOS, every tweak, tip, trick there was, I even started to jailbreak friends devices! It was a fun time!

So I started to build sort of a geek reputation and people started to “hire”me to do little jobs related to computers and fixing their issues. Even today people still know me for that.

And it all started thanks to that iPod touch I received in Christmas 2009.

Looking back, is crazy to see how many repercussions a simple gift can have.

Talking about the best gift i have received, i will take a throw back to my childhood days, definitely Christmas gift.

This date back to Christmas seasons of year 2002
The exact date I cant really tell.

For you to fully understand it, I will trow a little light on how kids celebrate Christmas here in Nigeria. We are bought a new cloth which we unveil on Christmas day, Every parent gets a new Christmas shirt for their kid to put on, on Christmas day.

On this very Christmas, my eldest brother had to buy me a suit as Xmas gift. The news about the suit came weeks before Christmas, I was so happen I boasted of my new suit to friend, i couldn't wait to receive it, i felt like i just won a lottery.

The irony of this special gift was that at the arrival of this give, some days to Christmas I wasn't allowed to see it until christmas day. Only for me to unveil my dream suit it was a little bigger than me. Designers weren't out that day to put it back to shape, so i had to swim in my large suit.

What a gift, and what a way to celebrate christmas

Christmas is a time we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, I was born on the 25 of December, It is fortunate that I share birthday with Jesus. Christmas has always been a double celebration for me and my family, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, my birthday is also celebrated.

This is the period of the year when I gather lots of gifts, these gifts ranges from cakes, wrists watches, clothes, shoes, gadgets and money.

These were some gifts I received my family on Christmas and my birthday last year.
