This is a quick example of a short Christmas murder story.
It was Christmas Eve in the small town of Oakfield, and the snow was falling gently outside the cozy little cottage where the Thompson family was gathering for their annual holiday celebration. As the family sat down to a delicious Christmas dinner, a knock at the door interrupted the festivities. When Mrs. Thompson answered the door, she was shocked to find the town's police chief standing on the doorstep, looking grave.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, Mrs. Thompson," the chief said, "but we've received a report of a murder at the old mansion on the edge of town. I need to speak with your husband right away."
Mr. Thompson, a retired detective, immediately offered his assistance, and the two men set off into the snowy night to investigate the crime. When they arrived at the mansion, they found the body of a wealthy businessman lying on the floor, a knife stuck in his back. The police chief quickly called for backup and began to search the mansion for clues.
As Mr. Thompson examined the crime scene, he noticed something strange. The victim's wallet was still in his pocket, and there were no signs of a struggle. It was almost as if the killer had simply walked up to the victim and stabbed him in the back.
Over the next few days, Mr. Thompson and the police chief interviewed all of the suspects, including the victim's business partners, his disgruntled employees, and even his own family members. But as the days passed, they seemed no closer to solving the mystery.
Just when it seemed that the case would never be solved, Mr. Thompson had a breakthrough. He remembered that the victim had recently received a threatening letter, written in green ink. When he checked the trash in the mansion's office, he found a discarded envelope with the same green ink. Inside the envelope, he found a letter from a disgruntled employee who had been passed over for a promotion.
With this new evidence in hand, the police chief arrested the employee, who quickly confessed to the murder. Thanks to Mr. Thompson's detective work, the killer was brought to justice, and the Thompson family was able to enjoy the rest of their Christmas celebration in peace.
