An Uneventful Advent so far...

This Sunday is the first day of Advent, marking the official countdown to Christmas. I heard one Christmas song in stores so far, but it seems like stores aren't trying very hard with the Christmas cheer this year. I have yet to hear Christmas songs, decorations are minimal, and there are no jingling of the Salvation Army collection bells. The cheer is needed as we're heading into the darkest part of the year.

Although I mocked Starbucks turning red on the first of November and Christmas merchandise coming out too early, now I'm starting to miss it. Since Bonny Henry is trying to cancel it here in British Columbia, whatever that means, it seems like people are going the extra mile and just not being festive in any way...kind of like how when we were told to social distance, people also emotionally distanced, and stopped talking or smiling (before mandatory masks).

I can't believe people are such fools that they would obey quasi/pseudo laws from politicians with a medical degree and not see their own family on Christmas, especially ones living in the same town. At least when the Grinch stole Christmas he only took stuff, this time we're getting lots of stuff but not allowed to see our family. If you long for a normal Christmas experience, surrounded by Christmas decorations, pristine streets, and healthy, unmasked people, check out Sweden.
