When I was a boy I wore out the groves to Lou Rawls records. This was early Lou, my favorite being Lou Rawls, "Soulin"
From on of the greatest holiday albums ever recorded, this swinging jazz/blues track was released on Capitol Records in 1967. The arrangement was by Hidle Brown Barnum who also worked with Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Gladys Knight and the Supremes. The album was produced by David Axelrod who worked with Lou Rawls during his Capitol Records years. With his four-octave range, Lou Rawls demonstrated his unique and distinctive vocal style. The late Lou Rawls (b. 1933, d. 2006) released more than 70 albums and sold more than 40 million records during his career. This selection is from his album "Merry Christmas: Ho! Ho! Ho!" and is available on Vinyl, Cassette, and CD. Thank you for bringing so much joy to our lives through your music and for your work with The United Negro College Fund. R.I.P. Lou Rawls!!!
