The persecution against the Church: You will only find yourselves fighting against God, Acts 5:39

After Pentecost, the disciples performed miracles and lived in communion in one spirit with God, and with this, the Church grew constantly in Jerusalem; but many powerful men felt threatened, and by this, oppression came. The book of the Acts of the Apostles tells us how the Church suffered persecution at the hands of its enemies, Pontius Pilate, Herod, and the Sanhedrin.
The High Priest, seeing in the disciples of Jesus a threat, ordered them to be imprisoned, but they were freed by an angel during the night. The next day the whole Sanhedrin met but they did not find the disciples and they found them preaching in the Temple, it is then that they were kindly led before the Sanhedrin so as not to create a great scandal before the people, but the High Priest wanted to kill them. It is then that the disciples expose their reason for acting, they do not do what they do to please men but God.
In front of this, the holy spirit inspires a pious man from the Sanhedrin, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who gives his thought in the face of the situation, this case is also a practical case of the gift of counsel in the Bible:
"Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: ´Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.´" Acts 5:35-39.
