This may be tough, we can’t recommend every church, we don’t know where you are in the world, and if you are brand new with only a little Bible knowledge it can be real tough. We can give you some general guidelines to help.
First, Pray. Just have a conversation with God and ask him to lead you where you should go.
Find a church that is a “Bible Believing” church. What does that look like? Check out their belief statements or statements of faith. Their statements of faith will be similar to the basic beliefs we outlined earlier in the previous section (Found Here)
A couple key points to be sure they profess to believe in:
The Bible is the Inspired Word of God.
There is one God who exists as one in three parts Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Personal faith in Jesus is the only way to Salvation.
Heaven and Hell are real.
Granted these are just the basics, but I really believe that the Bible believing part is the most important. My pastor often says that there are several types of beliefs thought in churches. There are truths, the core beliefs that are plainly set out in the Bible these are cut and dry, “thou shalt not kill” etc.. There are principles, ideas and patterns that have application to our lives. Then there are opinions, things that are left to the interpretation of men which cannot be 100% proven with scripture. My pastor is always careful to identify when he is presenting an opinion, he may believe it to be true, but there may be a degree of uncertainty or supposition.
I will caution you on two groups, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and the Latter-Day Saints, there are good people in these groups, and they do many good things, but many of their teachings do not line up with Bible truths. Neither can pass the four tests above.
