As Americans, we are raised to believe in the separation of “church and state”: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof….”
We are not raised with an understanding of the completely different worldview of Shi’a Islam, which shapes the thinking and the actions of Iran’s people and those who rule over them.
Iran’s political, military, and religious leaders are NOT like us. And that’s difficult for many Americans to comprehend. We have taken the idea of equality – that “all men [and women] are created equal” – coupled it with our commitment to freedom of religion, and turned it into the lie that all religions are created equal.
They are not. Buddhism is not like Judaism. And Christianity is not like Islam. They are not equal. They are not even similar!
As long as Iran is ruled by ayatollahs like Khamenei (and Khomeini before him), there can be no peace between Iran and Israel, and no rapprochement between Iran and the United States.
