Cicely Tyson (December 19, 1924 – January 28, 2021) was an American performer and style model. In a calling getting more than seventy years, she got known for her portrayal of strong African-American women.[1][2] Tyson was the recipient of three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Black Reel Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, one Tony Award, an advantaged Academy Award, and a Peabody Award.

Having appeared in minor film and TV occupations first thing in her employment, Tyson collected extensive thought and essential recognition for her introduction as Rebecca Morgan in Sounder (1972); she was chosen for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work in the film. Tyson's portrayal of the lead spot in the 1974 TV film The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, considering the book by Ernest Gaines, won her further acknowledgment; among various distinctions, the work won her two Emmy Awards and an assignment for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Tyson continued acting in film and on TV in the 21st century. In 2011, she accepted the piece of Constantine Jefferson in the honor winning film The Help. She in like manner accepted the basic piece of Ophelia Harkness in the legitimate sensation TV plan How to Get Away With Murder since the show's start in 2014, for which she was allocated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series on different occasions.

Despite her screen calling, Tyson appeared in changed theater manifestations. She got a Drama Desk Award in 1962 for her Off-Broadway execution in Moon on a Rainbow Shawl. Tyson similarly highlighted as Carrie Watts in the Broadway play The Trip to Bountiful, winning the Tony Award, the Outer Critics Award, and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Play in 2013. Tyson was named a Kennedy Center honoree in 2015. In November 2016, Tyson got the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the most significant ordinary resident honor in the United States. In 2020, she was enrolled into the Television Hall of Fame.
