Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: mehsteemCreated with Sketch.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was apparently successful enough to warrant a sequel (prequel?). I wasn't the biggest of fans - especially when seen in the 21st century - but I do remember watching it as a child. It's not as interesting as I remember...

After narrowly escaping with his life in Shanghai, Dr Jones, Shorty and Willie (a cabaret singer) get lost in an Indian jungle, where they come across a village where the children got enslaved and their sacred stone, stolen. The latter is said to bring fortune and glory...

Like it predecessor, Doom's scenario isn't something to be amazed at. In fact, it's not quite clear from the get-go unlike Raiders. It just seems to develop as the protagonists wander through the jungle.

Speaking of them, they are even more unrealistic and one-dimensional than the preceding movie. Shorty is just a child prodigy whom Indy saved after the Chinese bombed northern China, and Willie is just a dumb blonde who screams and is the object of Indy's affection.

Indy, on his side, seems to show a little more depth and intelligence - he can speak Hindi and mandarin, knows about the Indian legend of the stones. And unlike Han Solo, he does show some care for Shorty.

And overall, the special effects are a little better, although the flooding of the mine toward the end and the people falling to their dooms looked terrible. And mine did the mine cart chase looked like a roller coaster? Who the hell plans a mine in this manner?

In short, Temple of Doom is a good action movie. Just don't expect your brain to be stimulated with reflexion

aside from a few action scenes and of course the heart being removed from the chest scene, I thought this movie was a huge letdown as well compared to the first. IMO it is the 2nd worst film in the franchise.
