The Ocean "franchise" has had success with George Clooney. Sadly, I've watched it so long ago that I don't remember much. This spinoff (?), I guess, uses the same tropes but with "uterus havers" - Sandra Bullock is Danny Ocean's sister. The end result is good entertainment.
After nearly 6 years in prison, Deborah Ocean gets paroled and promises to mend her old thievy ways... which she breaks as soon as she reaches Manhattan. She reconnects with (I suppose) old associates to plan their next heist: steal a very rare diamond necklace at the Met Gala worth $150M.
I don't understand why the movie had such a mitigated success. Unless it was because it didn't live up to the movies with George Clooney, I have to say that I enjoyed the movie. While simple, the plot is well-managed and the technique behind the heist is well thought of. And if you don't pay close attention to the movie poster (and the movie's name), you might even have a plot twist.
Most of the cast was excellent too. Sandra Bullock is a good "coordinator" for her team; she's a very good calculator - and she apparently does speak German, so her delivery is natural. Helen Bonham Carter is as eccentric as ever and her brief French speaking is decent enough (although nichon seems an odd translation for bosom). Anne Hathaway is the perfect (seemingly) dumb an naive celebrity who acts as the vessel for the necklace.
However, I feel like Cata Blanchett was out of place. A rocker on a motorcycle? And Rihanna seemed a little cliché: a Caribbean woman who's stoned. Her acting looks unnatural; hell, her younger sister seemed better.
Nevertheless, I recommend this movie. It's good entertainment, and it does show that an all-female cast can give an excellent movie.
