Last night I had the privilege of seeing Widows, the new film from Steve McQueen the British Director that seems to make a mark with every movie he makes.
I had the pleasure of not knowing anything about the film.
It’s quite different from his previous films. First of all, it’s a heist film with some action. However, we can still see his style present. He takes his time to tell the story and at some points, the dialogue is long and heavy … always well written, but for the vast public who might think they are going to see an action flick.. it might get “slow”
The movie centers around a group of woman who finds themselves in a, particularly bad situation after their husbands all die during a heist. It deals with family, love, dynasties, policies, crime, race and much more.
It has a stellar cast and performances. Incredible camera work. The story is very well told with an incredible pace. The script was dapped from a book by the writer of “Gone Girl”
Just terrific. For anyone who likes the so-called “good cinema” that's a bit more cerebral and “slow” and also likes heist films… this one is really a great choice. A film that I think will stand the test of time.
As always, thank you for reading.
