Barbie

Barbie, in full Barbara Millicent Roberts, a 11-inch-(29-cm-) tall plastic doll with the figure of a grown-up lady that was presented on March 9, 1959, by Mattel, Inc., a southern California toy organization. Ruth Handler, who helped to establish Mattel with her better half, Elliot, initiated the presentation of the doll. Barbie's actual appearance was displayed on the German Bild Lilli doll, a ribald gag gift for men in light of an animation character highlighted in the West German paper Bild Zeitung.
