Around the Cinque Terre: Porto Venere
During our little weekend in the Cinque Terre , we spent a day at Porte Venere on the good advice of a friend.
A half hour drive from Riomaggiore , you will find the port city of Porto Venere.
How to get there ?
- By car : here, unlike the Cinque Terre , you can park because places are available, but do not be too greedy for as much! 😉
- By boat : a boat from the different villages of Cinque Terre allows you to make the journey from 30 euros. Here is the link to schedules.
- By bus : from La Spezia for 3 euros the trip. Departure approximately every 20 minutes at the Mercato Nord station.
- On foot : you can take the trail n ° 3 for 5 hours of hiking from Riomaggiore.
On the other hand, no train will make the connection between the Cinque Terre and Porto Venere.
What is there to see ?
Once arrived in Porto Venere, a beautiful walk awaits you all along the port, until discovering a church in height that will offer you a beautiful view of the sea golf poets.
You can then continue to gain height to have a beautiful view of the city while losing yourself in the narrow streets beautifully decorated.
When we went, it was a Saturday at the end of September and it was raining. There was no one. It was pure happiness! But after reading some comments, it seems that the city is much more crowded in the summer months: the tourists who, like us, want to see the surroundings of the Cinque Terre arrive many Porto Venere. It may be wise to prefer the week to the weekend to discover the city.
In short, this small town full of charm is really worth seeing. If you are in the area, I strongly encourage you to go!
