Circles and Arcs and Bolts

What is a circle, the student asked, What is truly a circle, a pure perfectly round circle?
We're part of nature and no circle is truly perfect and even when the mathematical circle is shown by formula we use the approximation of PI to describe a circle which is not a perfect circle.

Professor Reams listened to the student and then replied, Even though we only have the capability to make an approximation of a physical circle, the symbol used to describe the circle PI or π, is pure and perfect.

Yet we cannot fully calculate PI so how do we know PI is correct?

This was a PhD Theoretical Mathematics class so the question had validity.

Because we can visualize the perfect circle in our mind which may be the only place a perfect circle can exist, Reams said.

Yet even our minds are incapable of perfect visualization of a circle because of our human limitations.

The bell rang.

That's all for today, Reams said. I would like to continue this discussion but I several appointments to meet following this class.

You can walk with me Ken, if you want to as I go to my first appointment and we can talk if you want.

I have another class in fifteen minutes.

Okay then, next week.

Professor Reams and Joe parted. Then a rainbow appeared in front of Reams, he called back to Joe, who turned. Joe there's your perfect arc right there.

Joe saw the rainbow, waved, and laughed.

As Joe laughed, bolts began to follow thunder.
Or did the thunder follow bolts? That's the usual way it works.

Or did it?

There were so many questions left to be answered. People thought they knew everything, thought Joe, But no one knows how to describe a circle without π.

There had to be a better way.

It wasn't only a circle. Everything was an approximation. Our whole world and all science was based on the approximate. Everything was theoretical.

Things were dynamic, not static. Given time all things changed. It worried him as he learned.

That everything mankind did was theoretical. Someday, some things being very dangerous, all the theories that result in all advancement could crash into each other.

Karen came from the other direction of the hallway towards the class.

She pointed with her finger, Joe you just passed the door to the class.

Joe looked to his right. Stopped. Looked back. He was two doors passed.

He smiled at Karen. Laughed.

Thank you, I was thinking while I walked. After class would like to get some coffee, or maybe walk me home so I don't get lost.

Karen laughed. Sure, coffee or home. Whatever is safest, she continued, Now that we're about to enter chaos theory.

Photos by me.

I read your post many times...

Good work intertwining philosophy, mathematics, and general concepts. I know you write for your own sake on your blog, but would you consider sometimes writing for us, the general lot? This way, we can resonate and relate to your words in a much more open way. We want to engage with you...

As I mentioned elsewhere, your post combines philosophical musings, mathematical concepts, and human experiences to explore the themes of imperfection and the theoretical nature of knowledge.

It's amazing, but perhaps not easily understood by everyone...

I hope you take my words positively. You have a lot of potential that doesn’t need my validation.

Many warm regards to you :)

Thanks. Uh I have been working on engaging with folks for a long time. If only my crypto would have skyrocketed

But that would require the same level of understanding! More or less :)
