Every single one I've encountered so far who is furiously tweeting about how only people who went to J-school and who work for existing publications should be allowed to report information to other people have two things in common:
- A bio full of pronouns, anti-capitalist slogans, DNC talking points, and other markers that explicitly indicate a string of predictably significant biases; and
- Closed replies / warnings about how they will block anyone who says anything they don't like.
These same people bleat endlessly about how they're not biased and how harmful it is for anyone to claim otherwise, and worse, how devastating it is for their entire profession to be criticized by billionaires and plebes alike. They're simply outraged that anyone would even consider trusting some "citizen" journalist over their highly credentialed pronouncements... In spite of the fact that they openly disdain large segments of the population or that there is a mountain of examples of their biases leading them to screw up major stories.
How DARE you question them!?
Oh and, to be clear, very few publications have dedicated fact checkers and while this is still technically the editors' job - they are now focused more on figuring out the right click bait headline and pushing sensational stories out the door before anyone else "scoops" them... So this whole tweet is nonsense.
