Riyad Mahrez is close to completing his protracted £60 million move to Manchester City.

Mahrez, the Leicester winger, could have his medical later this week as talks reach a conclusion between the two clubs.

City manager Pep Guardiola wants Mahrez signed this month after failing in a bid to sign the former PFA Player of the Year in the January transfer window.

The deal is still not fully agreed but there is now a growing expectancy that the 27-year-old's move to the champions will go through in the next few days.

Leicester have granted Mahrez a week off training after he played an international friendly for Algeria and he is expected back on Monday.

It now appears he will have his move to Manchester tied up by then, with City heading to the United States for a pre-season tour later this month.

Mahrez's sale will represent a mammoth profit for Leicester, who signed him from Le Havre for just £450,000 in January 2014.

After his move to City was blocked in January he handed in a transfer request and then went on a self-imposed strike for over a week before returning.

However, he will be fondly remembered by Leicester fans for his key role in the club's remarkable title triumph in the 2015-16 campaign.
