Corruption in Romania kills Part 1

in cityscapephotography •  7 years ago

Corruption kills! is one of the most popular sayings in Romania since Colectiv tragedy where over 60 people died and over 100 people were injured because of the corrupt system that governs Romania since 1989 so-called Revolution. This time I'll present you a case where corruption in Romania kills a tourist attraction.

This is the fortress of Brasov build in 1524 and is one of the main tourist attraction in Brasov because of its beautiful architecture and the great view over the city.

Over the time this fortress served many purposes from stronghold to prison and then a restaurant but I'll detail in a minute.

You may wonder now why I said that corruption in Romania is killing this monument and the answer is that because of a fight between the state and a private company the walls are falling apart and the interior is in an advanced state of degradation which led the OWNER (private company!!!!!!!!) to forbid the tourist the access in the fortress and let it destroy bit by bit.

You now may wonder why the Brasov City Fortress is owned by a private company and the answer will shock you. After the revolution, a private company bought from the state the fortress and I think Brasov is the only city in the world that has a fortress that doesn't belong to the local administration.

I'll post the second part today with more details and picture of this beautiful fortress left to fall apart!
