Back in 2008, I had a chance to visit the islands and coastline in the Gulf of Salerno, Italy during an amazing trip with a small sailing boat. It was really great, one of the best excursions of my life. You have a totally different view of these little towns and villages if you look at them from the sea. It is really amazing how high they have built houses up on the rocks. Though it was a long time ago, I can still vividly remember the picturesque towns, the wonderful view of the horizon, the squeaking sound of the seagulls, the incomparable smell of salty water and the gorgeous taste of Italian red wine. I wish to share these memories with you in this series of posts.

Our first stop is Amalfi, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage. Looking at these photos, you will understand why. The little town is surrounded by 1300 meters high cliffs. The view of the town is really amazing from the water:

I love walking on these narrow streets...

Cars sometimes had a difficult time...

Houses are built on the cliffs, so carrying things up requires a bit of a thinking...

The place is famous for its Limoncello (Lemon Liqueaur)

Ceramics are also popular souvenirs

The beach is not big, but it is also nice.

View of the town from the hill - you can see a lot of roofs, beautiful isn't it?

And the proof that I was there... :-)

Looks like an enchanting place to visit while on the Mediterranean.
Was this a destinantion from a cruise?

Yes, it was a fantastic cruise. I am planning to share the other stops we took, because it was really great.

I love the shots from the boat. It makes the town look quaint and quiet. I bet it was a bit more loud and busy walking the streets. I bet they had some amazing food here!

Oh yes, food was excellent, too! :-)

Lovely! This took me right back to southern italy! I was lucky enough to study there in university and experience the joys of the mediterranean. Even enjoyed some limoncello from an old italian fisherman 😂

Oh it must have been great to study in Italy. I love that country!
