In the calm white glow of the late evening sunlight, Rishikesh looks positively serene.
[Right-Click Here to Enlarge Photo]Hey, hey, it’s the monkeys ...
Typical of an Indian town, Rishikesh has its hustle and bustle, along with plenty of chaotic traffic, primarily noisy scooters and auto-rickshaws. Inevitably, most of the drivers are honking their horns – incessantly and annoyingly – just to be heard.
And, as anywhere in India, you’ll come across a few cows and probably a number of monkeys.
... not The Beatles
To get some peace and quiet, all one has to do is cross over the Ganges River, by walking across the large Ram Jhula suspension bridge. On the far side, there are no major streets, just a small maze of quiet lanes nestled along the riverbank and on the hillside.
As you wander around in the peaceful glow of the evening sun, you’ll pass a few casual guesthouses and restaurants, along with dozens of temples and ashrams (including the ashram where The Beatles stayed in 1968).
While there are fewer motorized vehicles on that side of the river, you’ll still see the cows and the monkeys. But not The Beatles. Location – Rishikesh, India, on Google Maps This is my entry in @juliank’s CityScape Photography contest.
Wow. Good to see the popular Ganges River in this photograph. I've heard and read quite a lot about it - even Andrew Marvel mentioned it in his To His Coy Mistress. Thanks for capturing this great shot for our viewing pleasure.

Glad you like it. The Ganges comes flowing out of the Himalayas at Rishikesh. Up there in the mountains, the water is still quite clean and beautiful. And when I took this shot, the evening glow lit up the town so beautifully.

It's great to know that the River Ganges flow out from Himalayas at Rishikesh. And you took this shot at a perfect time - when the rays of the sun hung over the beautiful town. Look forward to more of this, sir.

After 10 minutes of viewing the photo, I finally saw a few monkeys near the steps to the water.

OK, now, try to find The Beatles. Or, at least, the 2 surviving Beatles. :-)

Rishikesh better known as the capital of yoga. I have heard that the Ganges River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world and that one of the largest concentrations of population in the world is concentrated on the banks of the Ganges.
Thank you for showing us that historic place.

Yes, some of my work colleagues spent some time in yoga centers in Rishikesh.
As for the Ganges, its waters are relatively clean as it passes thru Rishikesh. But as it winds it's way over the plains across northern India, it becomes increasingly dirty and polluted.

India has got some beautiful landscapes, especially the pilgrimage sites. Government as well as general public should take initiative to preserve these.

Sounds idylic, but at the same time chaotic (the traffic, that is).
