Equivalent Single Axle Load(ESWL):-

  • Equivalent Single Axle Load may be defined as the load resulting from a single tyre or wheel which would cause an equivalent magnitude of predefined parameters such as stress, deflection, distress etc at a given location to that resulting from multiple wheel load at the same location.
  • If "d" is the clear spacing between two wheels and "S" is the center to center distance between two wheels, then ESWL will be equal to "P" upto a depth "d/2".
  • For a depth greater than or equal to "2S" ESWL will be equal to "2P".
  • For any intermediate depth, a linear relationship is assumed to exist between load "P" and depth "Z" plotted on a log log scale.
