Good evening citizens of the internets! It’s Saturday night for a few more minutes and time for me to entertain you with a blog. Or at least try to. That’s all any of us can do. It’s entirely up to you if you’re entertained or not. All I can do is write shit. So That’s all I’m gonna do.
So I was watching Boyz N’ Tha Hood (sp?) last night. Good movie. I forgot how intense the ending was but it’s good. Kind of reminds me of a 70’s movie. You know, the kind they can’t make anymore. Bunch of mundane everyday shit happening through most of it, then a major climax and lots of action at the end. Anyway, so I hadn’t watched it in about 20 years, and something occurred to me that I hadn’t thought of before. What if Trey’s dad is also secretly Ricky’s dad? Or maybe he’s Doughboy’s dad and that opens up a whole different perspective on things doesn’t it? I don’t know, maybe. I just think about shit like that. Other than that, this is the movie that taught me about gentrification. I certainly didn’t learn about it ins school. Have they started teaching about it in school? Obviously you can learn about it in college, unless you go to Trump University or some shit where they just call it “Business Ethics”. But as Lawrence Fishbourne so eloquently puts it, it’s when the property value of an area is deliberately brought down so that it can be bought at a lower price. Then they bring it back up, force all the people out, and sell it for a profit. Obviously there’s lots of money involved in this, which means there’s lots of powerful people involved in it. Now if you’ve ever played Grand Theft Auto III or Vice City, you know that nothing drives down real estate prices like a good old fashioned gang war. So powerful people do what they can to make that happen. Such as smuggling in drugs and guns. And I kind of think that’s what’s happening in America at large now.
So there’s a well known truth that people seldom pay attention to. That is that whatever you are willing to stand by and let happen to others will eventually happen to you. So what white people were more than happy to stand by and watch happen in black neighborhoods in the 80s and 90s is now about to start happening everywhere. With automation increasingly becoming a fact of life, the oligarchs who run this country don’t have much further use for a working class. And they certainly don’t want to take care of a bunch of obsolete humans. Just like they didn’t really want to take care of freed slaves after the American Civil War. Capitalists only care about people to the extent that they find them useful. Of course, they can’t just drone bomb everyone, so they do the next best thing and send out a false profit to get the people all riled up and pissed off at each other to the point of provoking a civil war. Then they sit back and watch us all kill each other on the super ultra high definition screens from the comfort of their heavily guarded gated communities. And I’m not so sure we can ultimately do much about it, because we sadly largely have ourselves to blame. We’ve let the elites of the world convince us that petty things like race, color, background sexuality or gender identity make us better or worse than each other. While the people who are trying to rule over us have more in common with each other than they do with any of us.
So earlier tonight, I got called upon to explain what the title of my blog meant, and I couldn’t. Probably because I’m better at writing blogs than I am at actual conversation. But firstly it’s a tribute to Dave Rabbit, who was an American soldier in Vietnam who ran an underground pirate radio show out of the back of a brothel in Saigon. He played acid rock and made valuable public service announcements to let you know who was selling bad H. My kind of guy He sold T Shirts with a rabbit on them holding up a sign that said “Fuck it, Before It Fucks You”, so I decided to steal that and make it the title of my blog. Not sure if that’s legal, but it’s not like his show was anyway. . But beyond that, it’s a reminder to take a step back from the world and try to see it from a higher perspective. Then realize there’s only so much you can control, and focus your energy on that. Because when people get too emotionally invested in shit they can’t control, they end up getting fucked in one way or another. And I’m saying you shouldn[‘t pay attention to what’s happening in the world. You should see how fucked up the world is and then figure out what you can do to make it just a little bit better, because that’s all any of us can do. Beyond that, at some point you’ve gotta say “Fuck it!’ Before it fucks you.
