Music; The channel of communication that conveys emotions that we may not be able to sum up into words.
Take a second to sit back and listen to an amazing interpretation of classical music transcribed for two marimbas.
In this piece, you will hear a delicate interpretation of classical music by Percadu [Isreali Duo, originally percussionist for Isreal Philharmonic Orchestra].

What makes this performance exceptional?

Choice of Mallets- This is probably the most crucial aspect to tone and color for the marimba. The choice of mallets whether it be rubber, hard/soft/medium yarn, rattan handles, e.t.c.... really defines the color and depth of your playing. It can really create a different atmosphere for any repertoire.

Interpretation/Intention- As a percussionist myself, I really appreciate when percussionists shape phrasing with the composers original intention. On marimba this can be very difficult as every stroke is dependent on the weigh of your body and your stroke. The phrasing by Percadu is spot on; notice how the percussionists will pull away and stand taller as they play the delicate and lighter phrases. As they begin to create more depth and weigh, they bend their knees slightly and move their bodies closer to the bars to create depth. It's an excellent demonstration of phrasing and delicacy in interpretation.
