Neufville ( 1684 - 1712), organist and composer, was born in Nuremburg and studied from Pachelbel. His Ciaconna is a work built on a descending 8 bar ground bass.
The instrument upon which I play from my collection is a spinet by Carey Beebe (1989) after an anonymous 1708 instrument in the Royal Academy of Music, London. It has a compass of GG - d''', notably with a short octave in the bass. What appears to be a bottom BBB is actually GG with the two lowest sharps split into front and back halves. The front half of bottom C# plays AA and the back half, C#. The front of bottom Eb plays BB and the back half Eb. This instrument can play most of the harpsichord literature.
Apologies for the opening credits. I had some computer issues with the uploading. The opening title should read: Johann Jacob de Neufville - Ciaconna in B Minor, edited by Maurizio Machella

Sounds like a beautiful instrument. I hope one day to have the money and the room to buy a harpsichord myself.
Neufville is a new to me, attractive piece and dito performance.
