If you're familiar with the original "Variations Sur Un Noël" by Marcel Dupré, then you might probably know that the piece offers a wide variety of moods, expression (in terms of registration, tempo, articulation and other criteria). That's what I tried to give as a hint through my choice of the title.
If you're not familiar with the original, then I can totally understand your confusion: What I did indeed not take into account was the fact that those who've never heard of or listened to Dupré before would stumble upon this piece, which almost has his name carved into it. :-)
